Engineering consultancy Arcadis has confirmed two senior appointments in its UK wing, as the firm prepares for a busy 2019. Steve Bromhead takes on the role of Chief Operating Officer, while Tom Morgan will work as Arcadis’ UK Client Development Director.
The infrastructure of the future will require new thinking to maximise quality of life for populations, while minimising its environmental footprint. As companies and governments look to forge ahead with projects to improve performance on both fronts, they are looking to external expertise for key advice. To that end, engineering consultants are in high demand from planning authorities across the world, with Arcadis one of many firms increasingly being tapped to help envisage life and travel transformations for upcoming years.
Amid a growing client base, Arcadis has announced the appointment of Steve Bromhead as its new UK Chief Operating Officer (COO), following former COO Peter Madden’s move to head-up operations for Arcadis’s newly formed Europe, Middle East and UK region. At the same time, Tom Morgan will be taking on the role of UK Client Development Director, overseeing innovation and growth across the business.
Bromhead has a strong background in transportation, particularly in the aviation and rail sectors, and takes on the COO role after working at Arcadis for more than two decades in one form or another. His latest move will see him re-join the UK leadership team after a three-year period in which Bromhead led Arcadis’ global HSBC programme since 2015. Prior to this Bromhead was a Managing Director in Arcadis’ combined infrastructure and utilities business.
Tom Morgan has similarly spent a lengthy period with Arcadis, joining EC Harris in 2005, where Bromhead also worked, before its acquisition by Arcadis in 2012 saw him transfer across. Before this, he spent four years as a Management Consultant with Cap Gemini (before its rebranding as Capgemini), and two years with GKN as a Project Engineer.
Commenting on his appointment, Steve Bromhead, Arcadis UK COO, said, “This is an exciting time for our business. The impact of Brexit will undoubtedly pose some challenges for the UK economy, but we still see significant opportunity for the business. Joining an already strong UK leadership team at a time when our industry faces unprecedented change provides us with a great opportunity to help lead the industry, embracing the digital agenda and building a business where our future workforces will flourish.”
Tom Morgan, Arcadis UK client development director, added, “In the UK alone, our team of 4,500 professionals are applying their skills and expertise to some of the UK’s most transformative projects, ranging from the Lower Thames Crossing and HS2, through to the new Otterpool Park garden settlement, the Belfast Transport Hub, and of course the delivery of the Global Capital Programme for HSBC. I am looking forward to ensuring that Arcadis continues with this positive trajectory, improving the quality of life for our clients and their customers right across the built and natural environment.”
The moves come as part of a broader reshuffle to prepare for heightened demand. Mark Cowlard recently took the helm from Alan Brookes as the UK and Ireland CEO of Arcadis, following the expansion of Brookes’s leadership role to encompass Europe and the Middle East.
Commenting on Morgan and Bromhead’s appointments, Mark Cowlard said, “We’ve invested heavily in building the underlying foundations for a strong, joined-up business, and I’m pleased to welcome Steve and Tom onto my leadership team. Our success is driven by passionate and innovative people with sector, asset, and digital knowledge, and I’m confident that both Steve and Tom’s long-standing understanding of our business, combined with their extensive cross-sector expertise, will help to drive continued growth and development across the region.”
