APM Terminals (APMT) Maasvlakte II has marked the official start of the expansion of its terminal.
The expansion, realised in close cooperation with the Port of Rotterdam Authority and the CareGo consortium, will double the capacity of APMT MVII.
This will reportedly make the terminal the largest and most efficient and sustainable automatic APMT operator in Europe.
The expansion includes the construction of 51 hectares of container terminal land, with 1,000 metres of deep-sea quay, truck and rail transfer zones and the latest generation of Automatic Terminal Trucks. The project further includes developments such as emission-free AGVs and fully electrified sustainable infrastructure.
The first phase of the expansion is expected to be completed by the end of 2026.

Late last year, APMT MVII announced it is preparing to offer shore power for sea-going vessels by 2028 in an effort to make the Port of Rotterdam more sustainable.
