Algeria to Launch Dredging Project at Dellys Port in Q3 2018

Posted on June 19, 2018

The dredging of the fishing and commercial port of Dellys in Algeria will be launched in the third quarter of 2018, the public works department of the Boumerdès Province.

The project will extend the area of the port, one of the oldest in Algeria and increase its draft, the province’s wali Abderrahmane Madani Fouatih, said during a visit to the harbour.

A similar project was executed in 2017, resulting in the withdrawal of nearly 13,000 m² of silt at the entrance to the port of Dellys. This year, 30,000 m² of silt on a surface (at sea) of not less than 7 hectares, will be removed.

With a budget of DZD 100 million ($850,000/€732,000), this operation aims to widen the draft of the entrances of the port to five metres, with the aim of improving the working conditions of the fishermen, who will now be able to dock more easily.

Dellys is a small Mediterranean town in northern Algeria’s coastal Boumerdès Province,
