Adani Ports Receives Large IRClass Dredger

Posted on January 4, 2018

India’s Adani Ports has taken delivery of the largest dredger yet built under IRClass. Shanti Sagar, an 8000 m3 capacity trailing suction hopper dredger built by IHC Holland, is the first in the series of two dredgers ordered by Adani Ports. The second is at an advanced stage of construction and is expected to be delivered in the near future.

This is also the first dredger to be assigned with dredging freeboard in line with IRClass Guidelines for Assignment of Reduced Freeboards for Dredgers at the time of delivery. The so-called DR-68 guidelines permit dressing operations to take place at reduced freeboard.

Adani Ports and IRClass have worked closely on the dredger newbuilding project. “We sincerely appreciate the contribution and efforts of Indian Register of Shipping (IRClass) which led to the successful construction of our new vessel. Their technical expertise came in handy to address the challenges associated with such a project,” says Colonel Vinod George (Retd), Chief Operating Officer, Dredging and Reclamation, Adani Group.
