Spanish infrastructure firm Acciona has announced that it has secured a contract to build a large breakwater at the Italian Port of Ravenna.
Acciona will work in partnership with Italian company RCM Construzioni on the structure, designed to protect the port’s under-construction floating industrial terminal.
Scheduled for completion within 24 months, the breakwater will be built 8.5km off the coast, near Punta Marina, south of Ravenna, in the North Adriatic Sea.
The project is valued at €216 million and includes the construction of an 880m-long and 22m-wide vertical dock, supported by concrete caissons.
Funding for the project is provided by the Port Authority of the North-Central Adriatic Sea, through financing from Italy’s Cassa Depositi e Prestiti development bank.
The floating LNG terminal to be protected by the breakwater is expected to be in operation early in 2025.
