The Department of Municipal Affairs and Transport (DMAT) in Abu Dhabi has issued a notice directing all dredging and reclamation companies to obtain a No Objection Certificate (NOC) for dredging and reclamation works in Abu Dhabi waters.

The notice stipulated that the companies must obtain the NOC prior to the commencement of the work as per Law no.13 of 2016.

“The notice has been issued to stop unauthorised work and it is mandatory for all the companies to obtain the NOC,” a source told Thomson Reuters Projects.

“As of now there are no fees, but it may come in the later. If relevant documents are provided, the companies will get the NOC in 10 days,” the source added.

The notice also states that if any company is found violating the law by deploying any dredgers such as cutter suction, bucket type, grab type, hopper suction, suction dredger, pontoon mounted excavator, barge mounted or any supporting vessel for the work above in the waterways, a fine of 10 million dirhams ($2.72 million) would be levied.
