A mile of levee upgrades will be added to the Feather River West Levee project in Sutter County with the receipt of an $8.5 million grant from the state.
The funds, from the Department of Water Resources’ Flood Systems Repair Program, will allow the Sutter Butte Flood Control Agency to improve a section of levee near Laurel Avenue south of Star Bend, further expanding a multi-year project to raise the flood protection in urban and rural areas to 200- and 100-year levels, respectively.
Of the 44 miles of planned levee upgrades, 38 miles are now funded with the addition of the grant. Work on 37 miles of levee from the Thermalito Afterbay to Star Bend has been ongoing for three years at a cost of about $290 million.
