Posted on March 16, 2026

‘Working on a resilient port’ is the title of the annual report of the Port of Rotterdam Authority for 2025. It was a year in which the port of Rotterdam once again demonstrated its strategic value and resilience. Despite geopolitical uncertainty, increasing pressure on the industry and growing social expectations, the port remained an essential engine for the Netherlands, Europe and global supply chains. The Port of Rotterdam Authority made targeted investments in energy and logistics infrastructure and took important steps in addressing the major challenges that lie ahead.

The annual report describes how these developments took shape, with a strong focus on topics such as occupational safety, biodiversity and climate. The annual report also includes a summary of the financial results in 2025. The Port Authority’s revenues rose by 6.6% to €940.4 million. Costs also rose, in particular: personnel costs, operating costs and depreciation. There was also a one-off impairment loss. All in all, the bottom line fell by €7.8 million to a net profit of €266 million. Due to new agreements between the Port Authority and the shareholders, the Municipality of Rotterdam and the State, from this amount, €186.2 million was paid out in dividends.

Targeted investments for the future

Thanks to stable financial results, the Port of Rotterdam Authority was able to continue building a port that is ready for tomorrow. The Port of Rotterdam Authority invested €291.4 million in the port in 2025. The Porthos project, which transports CO₂ from industrial companies in the port of Rotterdam and stores it in empty gas fields under the North Sea to reduce emissions into the atmosphere, took major strides forwards. In addition, several shore power installations were commissioned, and construction of a new railway yard commenced at Maasvlakte Zuid.

With the corporate strategy, the ‘Port Vision 2050’ published in 2025, and the Climate Transition Plan the Port of Rotterdam has set the course for a future-proof strategy. In the social sphere, the connection was strengthened with the city and the region, for example, through the Youth Education Fund and the brand-new Portlantis port experience centre.

The power of partnership

Major challenges such as the investment climate, resilience and the energy transition require intensive cooperation. In the annual report, the Port of Rotterdam demonstrates what coordination with customers, governmental authorities, knowledge institutions, and local residents can achieve. These interviews provide additional insight into the themes that are important to the surroundings. Additionally, the annual report gives an understanding of the intentions and initiatives to keep the port sustainable, competitive and safe.
