Chesapeake Technology, Inc. has publicly thanked the over fifty attendees of the 2017 edition of the SonarWiz Training Workshop.
The annual training event was held December 5-7 at Cape Fear Community College in Wilmington, North Carolina. In his welcoming remarks, Jason Rogers, Chair of the Marine Technology Department, said “Cape Fear has one of the largest and most successful Marine Technology departments of any community college in the country”. Over the course of the 3-day Workshop users were introduced to many of the data acquisition and post-processing functions of SonarWiz 7, as well as training aboard the RV Seahawk on Cape Fear River.
For the first time, the class began with a special “Intro to Sonar Surveying” session presented by Mike Brissette, Technical Sales Engineer, R2Sonic. The class then moved into sidescan and sub-bottom processing, included data acquisition training with an EdgeTech 6205 sonar, and concluded with bathymetry processing. Attendees learned to process and view data in 2D and 3D, and how to export and create quality reports.
Aboard the RV Seahawk, Damon Wolfe of ECHO81 and John Gann of CTI provided participants with introductory training using SonarWiz for data acquisition. Classroom topics involving bathymetry, side scan sonar, and sub-bottom profilers were reinforced with on-water demonstrations of the software’s powerful data acquisition capabilities. Participants were introduced to line planning, real-time bottom tracking, sonar control interfacing, and coverage mapping options using SonarWiz. Damon said, “It was an honor to have participated in the 2017 annual SonarWiz Workshop and interact directly with such a diverse group of professionals”.
