Orange County Parks announced the closure of 1,000 Steps Beach stairs through Wednesday.
LAGUNA BEACH, CA — Orange County Parks announced the closure of the 12-flight stair access to 1,000 Steps Beach this week. The stair access would be closed until Wednesday, according to an OC Parks spokesperson.
“The closure is necessary to repair multiple broken and damaged stairs,” they reported.
Thousand Steps Beach has everything: rocks, tide pools, swimming, people watching, good bathrooms, shower, lifeguards, and so much to explore. Just be sure to drink all your liquids and brush off extra sand to lighten your load before climbing your way up and out.
The steps were poured over a century ago, according to a previous report, and are frequented by exercise enthusiasts and families who enjoy the swath of beach below. Regular maintenance is necessary to ensure the safety of beach visitors.
Having the steps fully closed will enable the concrete to be “set and dry,” ensuring access for future visitors.
There will be park personnel at the top of the stairs to allow emergency personnel access, should it be needed.
