Royal IHC in the hunt for big new order for two new hopper dredges from Boskalis

Posted on August 27, 2020

According to a recent story about the dredging contractor Boskalis in the Dutch newspaper FD (translated from Dutch):

“IHC is in the race for an order of several hundred millions euros from Boskalis. According to CEO Peter Berdowski, IHC is “the most serious candidate” for the construction of two hopper dredgers. ‘We’re seriously talking to IHC,’ said Berdowski. He did say that IHC is not the only candidate.”

A Boskalis spokesman confirmed to DredgeWire that the company is looking to invest in two “shallow draft ultra modern hoppers as a replacement and that IHC is in the running for this order.” He added that “Exact specs and timing have not been disclosed.”

According to Boskalis’ strategic plan, announced in their 2019 annual report, Boskalis

believes “that the global Dredging market for hopper and cutter dredge projects has a value of €56 billion with the bulk of identified projects to be realized in the next five years.” It added that “This outlook is slightly better than the market assessment from three years ago.”

Accordingly Boskalis has announced annual capital investment plans in the range of €200 million.
