The Port of Ipswich on the UK East coast has successfully completed a heavy lift operation involving a 178 tonne transformer, as part of a National Grid infrastructure project.
Andy Constable, ABP Head of Operations in Ipswich, said: “Handling this large piece of equipment involved very close collaboration with our customers and agents and we are grateful for their support, which has helped make this operation a success.”
The transformer will be installed at the substation in Burwell, thus helping the National Grid continue its vital work of delivering electricity reliably and efficiently to the customers and communities around the UK.
Due to the Port of Ipswich’s close proximity to the site in Burwell, it enables a natural flow of cargo from incoming vessels to their ultimate destination. This in turn helps minimise the distance travelled by cargo and reduces transport costs for customers.
