Onslow Commissioners Fund North Topsail Beach Repairs

ONSLOW COUNTY, NC -- Onslow County Board Of Commissioners decided to front funding to repair public North Topsail Beach accesses and crossovers, still damaged from Florence.

  • The commissioners are providing more than $ 709,000 for construction and materials to get the job done sooner than later
  • Donna Hammonds, the Onslow County Tourism Manager says missing out on tourist dollars is expensive
  • Onslow county collects a three percent occupancy tax from both hotels and rental properties

The commissioners are providing more than $ 709,000 for construction and materials to get the job done sooner than later, and the job is expected to be reimbursed by FEMA

Donna Hammonds, the Onslow County Tourism Manager says missing out on tourist dollars is expensive, so the project is a must do right now.

“Its very important to get those beach accesses back online and ready for the tourist season because not only do we have the folks that come down and stay for the week, and vacation and contribute to visitor spending here in Onslow County, but also the drive in market. Folks that drive in from Duplin County, New Hanover and Pender county that come to North Topsail Beach. Those dollars are also very important and having those access open for tourist season is a must here in Onslow County.”

Onslow county collects a three percent occupancy tax from both hotels and rental properties.
